Dr Duncan Memorial Vigil

9th May 2025
From 4pm
Dr George Duncan Memorial, Victoria Dr, Adelaide SA

A public memorial on the 53rd Anniversary of Dr George Duncan's tragic death in 1972, the spark that eventually led to decriminalisation of homosexual acts in South Australia in 1975.

The free, public ceremony will be held at 5pm next to the Dr Duncan Memorial near the foot bridge. It is an opportunity to publicly showcase a sense of unity among our wider South Australian LGBTQIA+ community.

An Afternoon Tea will be held at 4pm for community members in the University of Adelaide Pride Club's Rainbow Room/Dr Duncan Memorial Lounge (Union House West, level 4)

Commemorating the legacy of Dr Duncan

This memorial is organised by the University of Adelaide's Student Representative Council and Pride Club.

The Pride Club aims to provide a safe and inclusive space for queer students, running fortnightly afternoon teas and collaborative events with Flinders University and UniSA to make sure their members are connected with the queer community.
