First up is Suddenly, Last Summer (1959), a gothic classic from Joseph L. Mankiewicz featuring powerhouse performances by Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, and Montgomery Clift. Adapted from Tennessee Williams’ controversial play, it’s a lush, twisted tale of memory, madness, and repression, dripping with coded queerness and Southern Gothic flair.

Then shift gears with Tangerine (2015), Sean Baker’s vibrant, raw, and wickedly funny film shot entirely on an iPhone. Set on Christmas Eve in LA, it follows two transgender sex workers, Sin-Dee and Alexandra, on a chaotic journey full of heart, resilience, and wild energy. Groundbreaking and unapologetic, Tangerine redefined indie cinema and representation on screen.

This pairing spans more than 50 years of queer filmmaking. Contrasting a veiled classic with a modern, unfiltered street-level story.
